Title:
Women Academics' Career Advancement at Nottingham and Birmingham: Examining research processes and practices
Project Outcomes:
The two universities have developed a network of collaborators on gender equality, partly as a result of an £11k accelerator grant to Duberley and Cohen for ‘Women Academics' Career Advancement at Nottingham and Birmingham: Examining research processes and practices’.
This research highlighted particular obstacles for older female academics and is already making an impact at both universities and beyond. Within the universities, Schools, Faculties and Colleges are drawing on the findings in drafting their Athena Swan bids. Beyond the Athena Swan agenda, both universities are reviewing many of their key practices and processes, including potential gender bias in REF submission processes. More widely, two articles on this research were published in the Times Higher Education, The Guardian, and in the sector specific EFM publication, and have generated significant attention.
