Title:
Logical, linguistic and metaphysical aspects of objects,
properties and truth
Project Outcomes:
This project built on a previous project that established the MIMOSA network (Midlands Metaphysics of Science Association) by running a programme of workshops focused on the application of contemporary formal methods to traditional philosophical problems in metaphysics and language. Birmingham and Nottingham staff attended, along with collaborators in Sheffield.
As a result, external funding has been secured for 2017/18 to pursue further research on truth and truthmaking. The Leverhulme award involved collaboration between Jago and Kit Fine (NYU/Birmingham), as well as travel funds to conduct and present further research on the project themes.
In addition, joint outputs are planned, supported by research grants from funding bodies including the AHRC, British Academy, Leverhulme Trust, and the British Society for the Philosophy of Science. Future activities will include collaborative written outputs as well as an ongoing series of research events.
