Title:
Technicians in Partnership
Project:
Technical services staff make up approximately 10% of the workforce at the universities of Birmingham and Nottingham, where they make a fundamental contribution to research and teaching. Traditionally, training and development activities have been limited for technical staff, but in recent times, in response to an ageing technical workforce and increased technical requirements, there has been an upsurge in activities specifically designed to support technicians in higher education, both within and beyond institutions. Nottingham and Birmingham have both been active participants in these initiatives.
This project set out to facilitate interactions between technical teams at the universities of Birmingham and Nottingham to explore collaborative approaches to technician development through a technical partnership within the organisations’ strategic relationship.
