Title:
Collaborating in Brazil
Project Overview:
The critical mass formed through Birmingham and Nottingham working in partnership has proved extremely powerful in Brazil. It has provided a point of entry into the leading higher education and funding institutions at a time when many other UK universities are seeking to work in Brazil. It has increased our authority and credibility and has opened up opportunities to liaise with influential people and bodies.
We have secured preferential status with two major funders, FAPESP and FAPERJ. More information about some of these projects can be found here.
More broadly, our engagement with Brazil has led to external research funding for Birmingham and Nottingham together and individually, including £430k for Newton-Brazil projects in food-water-energy, sustainable urban transformations and linguistics (Birmingham), £200k NERC funded Ocean discovery programme (Birmingham) and £2m BBSRC/CONFAP Virtual Center on Agricultural Nitrogen (Nottingham).
