Congratulations to Hannah Lockington on her PhD defence
We are pleased to announce that Hannah Lockington successfully defended her PhD on Tuesday the 12th of November. Congratulations Dr Lockington!
Supported by the BBSRC DTP, Hannah’s work focused on understanding mechanisms behind the differing side effect profile of antipsychotic drugs. Her work used fluorescence correlation spectroscopy to show that drugs with a faster association rate became highly concentrated above cells expressing dopamine D2 receptors whereas drugs that associated more slowly did not. This provides evidence of drug rebinding that may contribute to their propensity to cause side effects. She was the recipient of the Schacter award from the British Pharmacological Society, which she used to visit the Javitch lab at Columbia University, NYC to learn primary cell culture and imaging techniques.
Hannah’s PhD supervisors were Dr Rob Lane, Dr Stephen Briddon, and Prof Meritxell Canals.
Hannah’s examiners were Prof Graham Ladds and Dr. Nick Holliday.
