About COMPARE

Spreading platelets labelled for actin cytoskeleton (green) and phosphorylated protein (magenta)

COMPARE is a unique collaboration between the Universities of Birmingham and Nottingham that brings together leading researchers to develop novel methods for visualising single membrane proteins and to use these to identify new approaches for prevention and treatment of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

COMPARE will:

  • Create a unique Institute that draws together the collective world class strength in the two universities in the field of membrane receptors and proteins.
  • Enhance and expand the current capabilities of the two universities in imaging (single molecule, single cell and whole animal) to create a leading institute for the application of these techniques to membrane receptors.
  • To use our reputation and facilities to train the next generation of world class scientists and to establish collaborative projects with industry that are at the leading edge of drug discovery efforts in cancer angiogenesis and cardiovascular disease.
